Workshops

I am excited to announce a new way to spend your summer… here at my studio in New Hampshire!

One of the best things about being a maker, furniture designer and artist is getting to share that passion with others. In that spirit, I have decided to open up my home and studio to all of you for a series of summer workshops.

It’s all about learning, experimentation, and community building in our new home studio. The summer here is beautiful, our forest and river peaceful. We are opening up spots to camp and a few bunk beds as well so you can all enjoy the rugged retreat like atmosphere that we are lucky to have year around. Swimming in the river, campfires and potluck meals (to me) are just as important as the techniques and ideas we will be exploring in the shop and classroom.

Rough and real: concrete for art and design

1,900.00

July 29th - August 10th

$1,500 tuition plus $400 materials/lab fee included in total

In this 2 week workshop we will learn to design with and manipulate concrete. Concrete is an amazing and versatile material, we will be using an array of techniques from mold making and casting to armature building and ferrocement techniques to build functional and sculptural forms. Technical demonstrations and class work time will be augmented with discussions, presentations and experimentation. Demonstrations and lectures will cover: different cement mixes and materials, basic metalworking for armature building, mold making and design, direct trowel working, concrete finishes, grinding and polishing. We will be engaged in a “hands on” research with the material. Each student will be encouraged to design and build their own pieces and samples, as well as participate in group experiments. Let’s see how far we can push this rough building material!
